The Society was formed in 1985 by a dozen or so regulars of the Railway Inn in Hale.

The Society holds 8 meetings per year from March to October, always on a weekday. Nine holes of optional morning golf precedes an 18 holes single stableford competition in the afternoon. This is followed by dinner and prize presentation in the evening.

Captains Day is held in July and is the major event of the season where the large silver Captains Cup is contested. A coach is provided and this all day event is usually held on a high quality golf course. Some previous locations have included Royal Lytham, Royal Liverpool, Hillside and Conwy.

In addition there is a matchplay knock-out competition run throughout the season, and the Order of Merit which is based on a members five best scores from the maximum of the eight meeting held.

In the autumn there is an informal 3 day trip to Anglesey, and before Christmas a "Turkey Trot" at a local course.

In early January the A.G.M. is held at the Railway Inn and at the end of the month there is the Presentation Dinner and Disco.

The current joining fee is £20.00, the annual subscription is £30.00. The cost of each meeting varies from about £40.00 to £50.00 depending on green fees, catering etc.

New members, visitors and travelling golfers are welcome. Please contact Julian Whyatt.
